Dayes is highly regarded for his masterful album with Tom Misch on Blue Note, his groundbreaking Yussef Kamaal album Black Focus on Brownswood, and his recent electrifying live Trio album Welcome to the Hills.Though largely considered a “jazzâ€� drummer, Dayes pushes beyond genre restrictions melding together everything from 70s funk to Senegalese percussion to UK grime.“If you’re not working with people that are pushing you,â€� Yussef Dayes says, “then it’s missing something.â€�Bringing together Rocco Palladino and Charlie Stacey for Yussef Dayes Trio, the new live album ‘Welcome to the Hills’ captures the raw essence of their spellbinding live show. Recorded in Copenhagen in July 2019, the music on the album was created live at gigs during 2018-2019 and is dedicated to the fans that came out to support them and witness this unreleased body of work in its purest form.Dayes explains; “There was something special about this performance… The raw energy, focus, determination & freedom to take our music to the next level.
