CL RECOMMENDS
CL Critic Matthew Warhol Recommends: Some music doesn’t need vocals. Chew, an Atlanta psychedelic rock trio, have known this since 2015. In the band’s almost seven years together, they never found the need for a singer. Because when your material is as musically expansive as their’s, finding a vocalist who can keep up is near impossible. Even if they did, this person might crowd the mix, making Chew diminish themselves. See, Chew songs are sonic odysseys. They start one place and end in another time signature, tempo, or even genre. There are moments of death metal, trip hop, math rock, and psychedelia in their 30-minute-or-less releases. And with the upcoming release of their latest, HORSES, whose to know where they’ll go next? — MW

From the venue:

”... the trio produces agile and fuzz-laden psych jams that veer into deeply heady territories, including everything from prog and acid rock to funk and downbeat.” -
