Artist Talk: The Autobiography of a Garden

Wednesday October 30, 2019 07:00 PM EDT
Cost: Free

From the venue:

The Autobiography of a Garden is an installation of 12 earthenware plates transfer-printed with engraving that shows artist Andrew Raftery going through the year performing gardening tasks appropriate to each month—a contemporary response to the medieval book of hours.

The garden at Raftery’s mother’s home in Providence, Rhode Island, is both the inspiration for his artwork and a separate creative entity in its own right. In this talk, Raftery will discuss the relationship between the eight years it took to develop this project and the constantly renewing cycles inherent to gardening.

This talk is cosponsored by the Carlos Museum and the Atlanta Botanical Garden and is made possible by the generous financial support of Northern Trust. It is free and open to the public.
