Cost: Free

From the venue:

In 2017, Walter Melion and John Clum donated 194 prints to the Carlos, transforming the museum’s Works on Paper collection. Several works from that gift are featured in the exhibition Through A Glass, Darkly: Allegory and Faith in Netherlandish Prints from Lucas van Leyden to Rembrandt, including two untitled prints designed by Johannes Stradanus and engraved by the Sadler brothers in Venice in the late 1590s that have come to be known as Death Visiting the Rich and Death Visiting the Poor. Enjoy afternoon tea and scones as Anna McKittrick, graduate student in the Art History Department, explores the iconography and inscriptions of these two engravings to demonstrate how the allegories of death would have been received in their contemporary context.
