Over the last four decades, John Waters has become a household name of sorts — if it’s an enlightened and intrepid household. The provocateur and pencil-thin mustached poster boy for the “cinema of transgression” has shocked audiences around the world with his grotesque and hilarious fascination with humanity’s dark side. For more on this, check out his films such as Pink Flamingos (1972), Cry-Baby (1990), and Serial Mom (1994). In the meantime, Waters’ one-man Christmas show, A John Waters Christmas, comes to Variety Playhouse Sun., Dec. 13 for night that’s billed as “Holier & Dirtier.” Don’t bring the kids, this one won’t be for the faint of heart, as Waters discusses everything from sadism and the dark Internet to his hatred of holiday gift cards.
