Atlanta Schola Cantorum presents -?WEIHNACHTEN: Christmas Ancient and Modern”??

Atlanta Schola Cantorum, a 24-voice ensemble under the direction of John Whitt, will present “WEIHNACHTEN: Christmas Ancient and Modern,” a program of choral music for the Christmas season by German composers of the 16th and 20th centuries. The centerpiece of the program is Hugo Distler’s Die Weihnachtsgeshichte (The Christmas Story), consisting of scenes of dialogue between a singing narrator (Der Erzähler) and choir (Chor). Heinrich Schutz’s Deutsche Magnificat, “Meine Seele erhebt den Herren,” will also be featured, as well as motets and chorales by Schutz, Andreas Hammerschmidt and Johannes Eccard.
