GO VOTE: Voting Day is Today! The Polls are Open!

There is a serious shortage of available workers to help out at the polls this Tuesday, according to Vasu Abhiraman, senior policy counsel at the ACLU of Georgia, who said many voters are returning to the polls in person after two years of pandemic isolation. “In 2020, everyone was staying at home,” Abhiraman added. “If they were going out to vote, they would often be voting early or by mail.”

The lack of poll assistants is reportedly troublesome in high-density counties such as DeKalb and Gwinnett. That could lead to people enduring long waits or abandoning queues altogether. Keisha Smith, DeKalb’s executive director of Voter Registration and Elections, told Atlanta Civic Circle the county has “sufficient staffing levels for Election Day” and is “adjusting staffing in real-time to ensure the best voter experience at all of our polling locations.” atlantaciviccircle.org
