Apple employees in Cumberland Mall filed a petition on Wednesday to hold an union election that could make the store the first of its kind for the company. The move follows a trend started by workers at locations of Amazon, REI and Starbucks.

The union in question is the Communications Workers of America, which represents people at companies such as AT&T Mobility and Verizon. About 100 salespeople and repair technicians at the store are eligible to vote and more than 70 percent of them have indicated their support. “We want equal to what corporate actually gets,” employee Sydney Rhodes told The New York Times. “Another reason why we’re working toward this union is for a more clear and concise way to grow, especially internally.” nytimes.com
