NEWS BRIEF: Bellwood Quarry now a water supply, off-limits to the public

No more strolls in Bellwood Quarry

What used to be known as the Bellwood Quarry in Westside Park is now a drinking water reservoir with restricted access, according to Atlanta’s Department of Watershed Management. In order to prevent contamination of the water supply, officials say recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking and scuba diving are strictly forbidden. Additionally, huge pumps installed in the 2.4 billion gallons of water “can drag a person underneath the water and pull them into the pumping manifold, causing serious injury or death.” The DWM warned trespassers will be arrested and charged with violating federal laws. h2o4atl.com
