Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles will open its third location in Southwest Atlanta in late August (additional locations can be found in Lithonia and Downtown Atlanta). The eatery, founded by soul singer-songwriter Gladys Knight and her son Shanga Hankerson in 1997, has grown iconic among celebrities, foodies, and late-night crowds alike. In addition to waffles and fried chicken, dishes such as fried green tomatoes, collard green spring rolls, shrimp and grits, and more are also offered. The new locale will be open daily at 3752 Cascade Road.

Wisteria chef Jason Hill’s kitschy new breakfast-and-lunch joint, Folk Art, opened on August 5 at 465 North Highland Ave., next door to Il Localino in Inman Park. Urban Daddy Atlanta has photos of the interior as well as few tasty details on the menu items; those include chicken and waffles with whiskey-peach compote and a bourbon-and-maple syrup cocktail. Boozy lunches, comin’ right up!

In case you missed it, Shake Shack will open an Atlanta location by summer 2014, setting up shop as an anchor tenant at new luxury development Buckhead Atlanta. The NYC-based fast food concept started in Madison Square Park in 2004, and has since garnered a cult following for items such as a “modern-day roadside burger,” flat-top hot dogs, french fries, frozen custard with gourmet mix-ins, and more. This will be Shake Shack’s first Georgia location.
