Clan Destined together again

Don’t call it a comeback! Even though East Point’s underground hip-hop fixtures DT and Yamin Semali can’t remember how long it’s been since they played an official Clan Destined show, they’ve taken the stage together numerous times over the last year, and even released a new song, “Hanging On,” over the summer. On Tues., Feb. 11, Clan Destined returns for a cause: Last month, 529 bartenders and roommates Brittney Pope and Rachel Stuart’s East Atlanta home was robbed. Thieves made away with virtually all of their electronic possessions (computers, cameras, Xbox, et al). To help with the recovery, Dropout, deadCAT, and Dillon fill out a bill headlined by the return of Clan D. “This is us coming together at a good time for a good cause,” DT says. “We’ll see how things develop from here. I can’t put Difference Machine on the back burner, and he can’t stop his solo momentum. I think we both want to do some more work, though.”

On March 8, the Mammal Gallery will play host to No Child Left Behind, a night that features 10 bands spread out over two stages, as each one makes an ATL stop on its way to play SXSW. The lineup includes performances by Guerilla Toss, Psychic Teens, Tweens, Yvette, and Cloud Becomes Your Hand, along with local acts Warehouse, TV Dinner, Polish Nails, Muuy Biien, and Aku You.

Last week, Moogfest quietly added a few more headliners to its April festival lineup. Asheville, N.C.’s celebration of synthesizer inventor Robert Moog just became a lot more vibrant. Pop megastars the Pet Shop Boys will play the five-day fest beginning April 23.

Though the addition of the British duo may seem a little mainstream for Moogfest, attention must be paid to the group’s increasingly bizarre, theatrical stage shows. Also performing will be outspoken British/Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A., whose live show can be a visual treat in itself. Flying Lotus and George Clinton keyboardist Bernie Worrell’s funk-heavy orchestra are also joining the lineup along with many other electronic acts.

Regularly priced five-day Moogfest tickets are currently selling for $299, but from 8 a.m. on Thurs., Feb. 6, until 11 a.m. on Fri., Feb. 7, Crib Notes has a special CL-exclusive discount on Moogfest tickets for only $99. When buying tickets, all you have to do is type in the promo code CLMF14 to get the discount.

Electric Sons released their second EP, Chromaesthesia, on Jan. 31. The group has been steadily building steam since the arrival of its debut EP in late 2012, and even landed a TJ Maxx national ad campaign with the song “Breathing Electricity.” The Futura Bold has released a new five-song EP titled This is War. The deluxe version comes with two extra tracks, and the group celebrates with a CD release party at Star Bar on Sat., Feb. 15. On Jan. 29. Jeremi Johnson, aka 10th Letter, released a new EP of seven ethereal beatscapes titled Seasons. And last but not least, SweetWater 420 Fest has announced the lineup for its 10th anniversary taking place April 18-20 at Centennial Olympic Park. There’s still a big “To Be Announced” on the flier, but we’ll post any late additions as soon as they’re announced.
